About Happi Leopold

If you’re excited for financial freedom, I’ll guide you there.

My name is Happi Leopold. As a kid, I never imagined I could be wealthy one day.

Growing up in Cameroon, my family was comfortable enough. But we weren’t allowed to talk about money. My father said, “Never tell people how much you earn. Ever.”

When guests came over, we kids would set the dining room table but were never allowed to join the adults or use the good china. “Out! Out! You don’t belong here,” we were told.

Many years later, when I first started working as an investment consultant in Canada in 2007, I sometimes felt like I didn’t belong at the table there either. I’d even get nervous in front of the big boss when he asked how my weekend was. Would he ask me to leave?

That may sound silly, but it’s not. The cultural conditioning I received as a child around money was debilitating. The only avenue I thought open to me was to get a job, hopefully get a few promotions, work until I was old, and pray I had enough to retire on.

And substantial, enduring wealth? The kind that lets you choose how to live … and really take care of your family the way you dream of … and give back, and pursue your passions? Hah! That was only for the lucky few. Not mere mortals like me.

But a funny thing happened early in my banking career. I passed the Canadian Securities Course to get a job promotion and earn more money.

That course opened the door for me to the world of investing.

How I became an investor

After several promotions, I began helping high net worth clients—people with portfolios of $500K to over $800M in investment accounts—grow their portfolios even more. I handled so much money on their behalf, it hardly seemed real.

What really struck me about these investors was their attitude. They talked about money without ever feeling it was taboo. They were open-minded, approachable, and humble about how they accumulated their wealth, whether generational or self-made.

So very different from what I learned about wealth and money growing up.

Interestingly, while hardly any of them looked like me, these super-wealthy investors were coming to me to get richer and richer. So I started telling myself, “Maybe you’re sitting on a goldmine, Happi. You can do this too, this is possible for you.”

I began watching these investors closely. I discovered they didn’t have investment degrees, though they were keen observers of the market and economy. And they didn’t believe in get-rich-quick schemes; they had a long-term view of building wealth.

That sounded easy enough. So I invested a large part of my savings in the stock market … and lost all of it. I was afraid to tell my wife.

But what went wrong? What was missing?

My journey to success

That’s when I realized that in addition to capital, you need education, discipline, and patience to succeed. Here’s what I mean:

  • Education: to understand stock market fundamentals, trends, and innovations.
  • Discipline: to define and follow a rigorous investment strategy.
  • Capital: that lets you sleep at night (i.e. don’t invest all your life savings in one go!).
  • Patience: to commit to long-term success and not be swayed by short-term fluctuations.

I researched, trained, studied, and modeled the mindsets of my most successful clients, and began to see BIG results in my own portfolio. Investing became a reliable source of income for me. I even made more than my salary.

More and more clients began lining up to talk to me, because they could sense my passion.

I started to wonder: “Am I in the right place? Could I be my own boss … grow my own portfolio … and teach others what I know?”

It would take financial freedom to achieve that dream. So I continued investing in the stock market. And start investing in real estate: I bought my first home, then flipped it to buy my second and third houses.

I also surprised my wife and kids with a spur-of-the-moment, paid-in-cash vacation. We just packed and went! It was amazing to be able to say “we’re going” and not worry about the cost.

Those experiences gave me confidence to leave my well-paid job after 14 years. And they empowered me to teach my community everything I’ve learned by starting Easy Finance Academy.

Since starting Easy Finance Academy in early 2020, I’ve helped more than 500 people embark on their own successful investment journey. They’re earning money and building wealth for themselves and their families … and they’re well on their path to financial freedom.
